Why natural skin care is important for tattoos

Your skin is the body’s largest organ.  It protects you from and interacts with the environment. It also absorbs almost everything you put on it!  Your skin is porous and it heals, regenerates, and detoxifies overnight.  Using synthetic-based products will interfere with this process.

According to the New York State Health Foundation, on a daily basis, Americans are exposed to many of the 80,000 chemicals currently used in the United States—few of which are adequately tested for their effects on health.

Consider that a growing amount of scientific evidence is showing even the smallest dose of synthetic chemicals in skin care can be harmful.  No one actually knows the long-term effects or the cumulative impact of being exposed to synthetic chemicals used in skin care every day will do, even in small amounts.

Here are some simple thoughts for you to consider for your skin and your tattoo:

Natural has been around longer than synthetic chemicals

What do you think people were using before all these supposed ‘skin enhancing’ chemicals were discovered?  Natural ingredients of course!
Many ingredients that are included in modern skincare products have been used for centuries; developed from ancient remedies that have been known for their incredible benefits for the skin. There is no better test than the test of time, and these ingredients have proven their worth by giving you healthy skin.

If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin!

It’s great to be health conscious and think about what we are putting into our bodies, and it doesn’t stop at what we eat and drink. Next time you are buying a skin care product, take a look at the ingredients on the label and think, “Would I eat this?” If the answer is no, perhaps it’s time to start turning to a more natural skincare routine and products.
The most important way to tell the differences between synthetic and natural skincare products is to look at the ingredients.  Ingredients to look out for include parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, synthetic dyes, propylene glycol, and triclosan.  These ingredients are made in labs and  can be harmful to the body.  Another problem with synthetic skincare products is that they’re harmful to some individuals’ skin. Certain ingredients contained within these products can cause everything from swelling to redness to itchiness to outright allergic reaction.
Natural products, on the other hand, are filled with familiar-sounding ingredients such as coconut oil, avocado butter, jojoba oil, shea butter, and more. These ingredients are actually beneficial. This is due to the fact that they contain vitamins and compounds such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and more, all of which help the body to function at optimal levels.
This is why it’s generally a better idea to opt for natural products. Natural products are free of irritants, and, instead of being a detriment to the skin, they are actually beneficial to it.
Remember: If you can’t read it, skip It!

Leave no doubt about your health

The question you have to ask yourself is: are you comfortable gambling on your health? Is it worth it to potentially harm yourself with a synthetic product when you could just as easily be using a natural product?  Remember: until a new synthetic ingredient has been tested, it’s impossible to know what type of impact it could have on the body. You don’t want to be one of the unfortunate souls decades down the line, suffering from health problems that you could have avoided.

Better for the environment

Simply put: natural skincare products are better for the environment than are synthetic skincare products. The reasons for this are numerous.
  • First, synthetic chemicals have the potential to harm animals and plants with which they come into contact. If the synthetic chemicals seep into the ground, they could have consequences on surrounding ecosystems.
  • Secondly, the processes associated with manufacturing synthetic skincare products put a great deal of stress on the environment. This is because the extraction of certain ingredients (aluminum, lead, etc.) requires mining. Mining produces a great deal of pollution, ultimately leaving a negative carbon footprint on the environment at large.
Natural skincare products forego the use of such ingredients, and so don't necessitate mining. And because they use only natural ingredients, they cause no harm to the surrounding plants and animals.

The bottom line - It is safer

When compared to synthetic skincare products, natural skincare products are much safer. This is because the ingredients contained within natural products are much safer than those contained in synthetic products.

By using a natural skincare product as opposed to a synthetic one, you are essentially avoiding all negative health effects. This will result in you feeling better and your skin looking better.
